Handling Weapons

Life can be a lot. It’s messy, complicated, and honestly, exhausting sometimes. There are moments when it feels like everything is working against you: a boss who seems to have it out for you, a friend who talks behind your back, or even someone you trusted taking you to small claims court. Yeah, it gets real.

When I feel like I’m being dragged through the mud, there’s one verse that always comes to mind. It’s one of those go-to scriptures people quote when things get tough:

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.  Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

I’ve clung to the first part of that verse like a lifeline:
“No weapon formed against me shall prosper. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

Sometimes I just repeat it over and over until it sinks in.
Inhale: No weapon formed against me.
Exhale: Shall prosper.
Over and over, until I feel a sense of calm.

Here’s what I’ve learned: when life throws weapons at us, we need to do three things:

Recognize the weapon - That thing (or person) that’s clearly meant to hurt, distract, or discourage you.
Realize we’re not meant to handle it alone - We try to fix things ourselves, using our own strength or ideas. But God gives us what we need to face it; His strength, His wisdom, His peace.
Rely on God's promise - This part can be tough. Often, we have to go through to get through. Even when we are going through, when we are fighting the good fight, we can know that God's promises provide strength for the battle providing a confidence and a peace to weather any storm.

So, how do we handle weapons? We handle with care, with clarity, and with confidence because ultimately we know if it was formed against us, it won't succeed.

Have you learned how to handle weapons?
