New Seasons

When seasons change on the calendar, the days before and after can look the same. Only as you continue moving, do you see markers that indicate you're in a different season. When we go from winter to spring, the days become longer, the weather becomes warmer, the air becomes more fragrant.

When seasons change, it's like taking a road trip, leaving one state and going to another. When the sign says "Welcome to NY," initially everything looks the same. The road doesn't change; it's still pavement. But as you keep driving through NY, you notice markers emblematic of NY. You see people, you feel a vibrancy, you notice landmarks.

So how do you know when you're in a new season? What are the markers as you walk through your new season?

Yesterday, I prayed this prayer. I was so touched by it that I'm sharing it with you here.

A Prayer for Calling

God, You know my heart better than anyone. You know the dreams I have for the future and the silent prayers I’ve prayed for years. You know what I am longing for, searching for, and waiting for. You know my dreams, but You have a plan.

You make all things beautiful in their proper timing. You are faithful to keep Your promises. But so often, I forget this and grow discouraged when my situations don’t seem to change. In those moments, it’s easy to forget that You are not done working.

As I prepare for a new season, remind me of the promises You have for me, the gifts You’ve given me, and the hope that I have in You. Search me, and know my heart. Try me and test my anxious thoughts. See if there is anything within me that grieves You.

You are the one who establishes my steps. So in this new season, I am choosing to trust You with the unknown. I am choosing to be faith-filled because You are faithful.

Through Your Holy Spirit, please change the way I think and behave. Transform my mind so that I can discover Your perfect will. Allow me to become the person You created me to be so that I can fulfill the calling You’ve placed on my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What are the markers as you navigate your new season? Do you have more grace, courage, wisdom, and love? Are you at peace though storms swirl around you? Do you have a deeper understanding of God that guides your daily interactions?

There is an occasion for everything and a time for every activity under heaven.
He has made everything appropriate in its time.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and enjoy the good life. It is also the gift of God whenever anyone eats, drinks, and enjoys all his efforts. (Ecclesiastes 3:1,11,12,13 CSB)

Take a moment to note the markers in your new season and enjoy the season.

  1. This "In those moments, it’s easy to forget that You are not done working.". God is always working behind the scenes. Never is He idle. He is still working on me Nylse. I'm praying your prayer today.

  3. This helps keep us centered in Him, Nylse, "As I prepare for a new season, remind me of [Your] promises." And I agree with your declaration of trust, "I am choosing to be faith-filled because You are faithful."

  8. Nylse, seasons do sometimes change subtlely. But, even when they are abrupt, I'm so thankful God walks with us through them, holding our hand and guiding us. Thanks for the reminder to remain faith-filled when seasons change.
