Give thanks - it almost sounds like a command: give thanks, or else!
Or else what?
- You won't recognize the blessing in the big and small things
- You will be a sourpuss because you feel life isn't fair
- You may become self-absorbed
- You may become weighed down by your circumstances
- You may say an unkind word
- You may lose sight of what's really important
If the turkey is taking forever to cook - give thanks, you have a turkey.
If no one wants to help with the cooking - give thanks and do what you can.
If the black sheep of the family comes over for dinner - give thanks for them, at least they're here and continue to pray for them.
If you're home by yourself - give thanks for a roof over your head and invite another person over.
If job searching is wearing you down - give thanks for life, hope, and resilience
If you are missing a loved one - give thanks that you will be reunited in heaven; give thanks for life.
So, in spite of everything that is going on in my life, right now and always I will cultivate an attitude of gratitude.
.....stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at evening ... 1 Chronicles 23:30
It is good to give thanks to the LORD and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High ... Psalms 92:1.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! ... 2 Corinthians 9:15.
Give thanks; its a choice. Choose to be grateful. Will you?
You are so right. I am battling general grumpiness and found that thankfulness had taken a hike, so I'm actively working on it. Thanks for putting it into such practical words.
