Am I Too Old?

Have you ever played Bananagrams? It's a fun word game of chance where the object is to be the first to use all your letters. There are 144 letters on tiles (similar to Scrabble tiles). 

Each person draws twenty-one tiles from the BUNCH. To start the game, someone yells SPLIT.

Then each person individually turns over their tiles and forms words. They can be vertical and horizontal (again, similar to Scrabble).  You may rearrange your grid at any time and as often as you like. Once a player has used all of their tiles to form words she yells PEEL and grabs another tile from the BUNCH. She uses this tile to create another word to add to their existing words.

Book Review - I'm Judging You

I was pleasantly surprised to find I'm Judging You by Luvvie Ajayi in a local library. I follow Awesomely Luvvie's blog and knew she was writing this book, so when I saw it, I grabbed it and started reading immediately

What drew me to her blog is her humorous point of view in a way that is familiar to me. She calls herself a wacky wordsmith, but her wackiness and way with words were something I grew up with. So when I saw how she expressed herself on a variety of topics I kept reading. As an example here's a sentence from one of my favorite chapters - "I called good sense and asked if it was coming back soon and it told me not to hold my breath."

This book is a collection of essays, written in a Luvviesque style that runs the gamut from the superficial to the serious. She expounds on Relationships, Racism, Religion, Immigration & Assimilation, Body Image, Social Media and Fame and tells you how to find your "act right!"

Because that's the whole point of the book - you're being judged because you have no behavior - so get some, by reading this manual. After reading this book you'll walk away with more sense and more laughs. It's conventional wisdom or common sense (which is not so common) wrapped in humor and some strong language.

We all need to be better, so pick up this book.

Just for Fun - Influenster Jolly VoxBox

When I started blogging, I had no idea what awaited me.  Through reading and following many blogs I learned about Influenster. I signed up, because it seemed fun (and I wanted free stuff)!

Well I signed up over a year ago and finally got my first box - the Jolly Vox Box in Mid December.


This box contained:

5. Skinny Cow Divine Filled Chocolates - Peanut Butter

The first thing to be sampled was the Skinny Cow Divine Filled Chocolates. These taste like Reese's peanut butter cups but aren't as fattening.  They were 6 one ounce packages that each contained 3 squares. I devoured all 3 squares in one sitting - they were that good, and then I tried to spread out the remaining packets so that this goodness could last as long as possible.

Believe it or not my youngest daughter makes duck tape wallets - so when we saw the Mini Ducklings Duck Tape, she grabbed it. It was the perfect size for trim on the wallets. If she didn't make these amazing wallets, I wouldn't know what to do with this item.

My nose runneth over, constantly - so the pocket size of Puffs Plus Lotion came in handy. It lives up to its name and is quite soft to the touch. My nose was thankful.

The Rimmel London Lip Lacquer in Celestial which is really pepto bismol pink was a bit too pink for my complexion, but the NYC HD Trio Eye Shadow kit made the perfect smoky eye. More than likely I will gift these items to my older daughters who will get more mileage out of this than me.

Overall, I was thrilled to receive my first Influenster Vox Box and for the most part enjoyed using the products. This box was perfect for me.

Is This My Life?

I have a child who is experiencing a whirlwind year - she started off in Denmark, and for the past three months has been in the Mid-west on an internship. She'll get one week off and then she returns to the South to complete her final year of college. In this past year, she's had ups and downs. The "ups" gave her an appreciation for new experiences, but the downs forced her to reflect and dig deep.

In the digging deep, she may have wondered, "Is this my life?" Have you ever felt like the things you're going through can't possibly be happening to you, like someone swapped your life?

When I go to the farmer's market, I get distracted and sometimes walk away from my cart. There was a time in my distraction I picked up a bunch of spinach and placed it in what I thought was my cart. Imagine my surprise when I got to the checkout and I took out the spinach - which were mine, but the coffee and oranges weren't.  I realized that I had put my items in the wrong cart and had continued pushing the cart as if it was mine.  I only realized it when I went to check out. Now the fun began - I had to find the original owner and my cart. So I walked back to the spinach and I saw a lady wandering aimlessly around. "Is this your cart?" She said "yes;" we made small talk and laughed about this debacle for a second.  I returned her cart to her and proceeded to my cart, which was exactly where I'd left it.

We live our lives as a tale that is told. There's a brevity to our lives, even though it seems so long and intense when we're going through. However, it is your life and it serves a purpose. Remember, God isn't distracted when it comes to you - He's not placing items meant for others in your life; what's in your life is meant for you - warts and all.

........we spend our years as a tale that is told. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:9,12
