Book Review - I'm Judging You

I was pleasantly surprised to find I'm Judging You by Luvvie Ajayi in a local library. I follow Awesomely Luvvie's blog and knew she was writing this book, so when I saw it, I grabbed it and started reading immediately

What drew me to her blog is her humorous point of view in a way that is familiar to me. She calls herself a wacky wordsmith, but her wackiness and way with words were something I grew up with. So when I saw how she expressed herself on a variety of topics I kept reading. As an example here's a sentence from one of my favorite chapters - "I called good sense and asked if it was coming back soon and it told me not to hold my breath."

This book is a collection of essays, written in a Luvviesque style that runs the gamut from the superficial to the serious. She expounds on Relationships, Racism, Religion, Immigration & Assimilation, Body Image, Social Media and Fame and tells you how to find your "act right!"

Because that's the whole point of the book - you're being judged because you have no behavior - so get some, by reading this manual. After reading this book you'll walk away with more sense and more laughs. It's conventional wisdom or common sense (which is not so common) wrapped in humor and some strong language.

We all need to be better, so pick up this book.

Random Thoughts

A Funny
My real name is Andree and apparently it creates issues for many. They don't know how to pronounce it and how to spell it. Funnily enough I thought it would be easier than my other name, which I why I started going by this name.
Anyhow, as you know I've moved and have made some friends. Yesterday I was at Track practice with the Little One and decided to work out. I caught up with a friend (let's call her M) who had recently had a baby and a group of us women were standing around chatting and admiring the baby. A guy walks up and starts talking to M. Out of the blue she makes a sweeping gesture and says, "And this is Andree," really emphasizing my name.  He then walks away. I turned to one of the other ladies and said, "Was that M's husband?" she said yes, and then M says - "He thought you were Andre and wanted to know why I was texting a guy name Andre; I was making it clear that you were Andree, a female." I wondered why I got the special introduction.
So apparently my name is causing marital discord!

A Song that Always Make Me Think
This song was sung by the Youth Choir at our old church; I was convicted listening to it, I often wondered if any of the singers were.

Hopefully your name is not causing problems in other's relationships and you're living in a way that pleases God.

Ever wonder if you're children will get a long and treat each other as friends?

Here's a recent exchange that made me smile and tickled my fancy:

Don't give up. Despite all the fighting, bickering, rivalry that occurs with siblings as a parent, keep parenting.
Follow the scriptures and, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.

Continually teach the word of God - “We will not hide them [instructions and history] from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” Psalm 78:4

Model it by living it out; pray often; pray over them and pray for them.


As you can tell they all have different personality traits and as a parent that's sometimes the toughest part - bringing out the best in each child while not making anyone feel less than.

Don't give up and trust God.
